Preparation of the endometrium

T
he process to prepare the endometrium is very simple. The production of pituitary hormones is blocked if the woman has a normal ovulation. Then, estrogens (oral, patches…) are administered to act on the endometrium, making it grow. With this treatment, we reproduce the follicular phase of the ovarian cycle until the endometrium reaches an appropriate thickness. We consider that the recipient woman is ready when the endometrium measures 7 mm or more. This usually takes place about 16 or 17 days after the beginning of the treatment with estrogens. By ultrasound, it is checked that the endometrium is ready. Thanks to this treatment, the endometrium is kept prepared for a long time (until 100 days), which allows us to complete the donation process without problems.
Barring endometrial preparation, the egg donation should occur during the days the endometrium is receptive to the embryos (only 3 or 4 days each cycle), which is rather complicated. Nevertheless, in certain cases, the egg donation is done in natural cycle.

The time elapsed since the patient has her endometrium prepared until she receives the eggs depends on the synchronization with the donor. Usually, it takes a few days. However, sometimes it can take up to 3 or 4 weeks. The chances of pregnancy are the same, independently of the time elapsed until the reception of the eggs. .
